7/13/2024, Saturday - Biked to Taste of Buffalo

It was a beautiful day, so we decided to go for a bike ride and head towards downtown to explore it better.

We took the Shoreline Trail the other direction, towards downtown. This is a nice pedestrian/bicycle bridge over the highway.

There's a nice overlook there to view the Peace Bridge to Canada.

The Peace Bridge crossing the Niagara River between Buffalo and Ontario, Canada.

This downhill ramp is really fun on a bicycle.

We did eventually take the detour into the city, away from the shoreline, but we had to explore a couple of things first.

We had to check out the Charles & Marie Fontana Boathouse, which was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1905 and finally built in 2007.

It's interesting, but not nearly as impressive as some of his other work.

We also had to see for ourselves that the trail was closed, lol. It was closed, right by this cool old building.

So, we followed the detour and took the streets into downtown Buffalo.

We happened upon Taste of Buffalo at Buffalo Square in the heart of downtown.

The streets were shut down in the square, and it was full of vendors from all over the city showcasing their wares. We purchased samples and full servings, and made a nice meal of wings, pierogis, brussels sprouts, and spring rolls.

An inner circle had tents of businesses with giveaways of all kinds, and we walked away with all kinds of free goodies.

There was even live entertainment.

This mini Statue of Liberty is atop the building in the distance behind the singer in the last photo.

This is one heck of a vehicle the Buffalo Police have! It even has LRAD on the front, which emits a super loud noise as a deterrent.

Next we biked over to another area that looked like a hotspot on the map, and it turned out to be the Theatre District, so we parked our bikes and walked around.

The history of electricity and Buffalo is pretty cool.

This is an old bank building with a very gold roof. I guess that made people feel more comfortable putting there money in that bank. I mean, really, who needs a gold roof?

This all white building had old sign on it marking it as "Electric Tower".

Another beautiful old church.

We also caught a view in the distance of the two dueling Statues of Liberty.

Yes, the "Flat Deedra" of Cara's mother still travels with us. Cara couldn't get it in the picture, but you can see the electric lines for electric streetcars. Super cool! And it goes underground a little past where this photo was taken.
